All Glory Be to Christ

Glorifying the God of Faithfulness and Hope

LYRICS (Click to minimize)

Should nothing of our efforts stand
No legacy survive
Unless the Lord does raise the house
In vain its builders strive

To you who boast tomorrow’s gain
Tell me, what is your life?
A mist that vanishes at dawn
All glory be to Christ!

All glory be to Christ our king!
All glory be to Christ!
His rule and reign we’ll ever sing
All glory be to Christ!

His will be done, His kingdom come
On earth as is above
Who is Himself our daily bread
Praise Him the Lord of love

Let living waters satisfy
The thirsty without price
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet
All glory be to Christ!

All glory be to Christ our king!
All glory be to Christ!
His rule and reign we’ll ever sing
All glory be to Christ!

When on the day the great I Am
The faithful and the true
The Lamb who was for sinners slain
Is making all things new

Behold our God shall live with us
And be our steadfast light
And we shall e’er His people be
All glory be to Christ!

All glory be to Christ our king!
All glory be to Christ!
His rule and reign we’ll ever sing
All glory be to Christ!

All glory be to Christ our king!
All glory be to Christ!
His rule and reign we’ll ever sing
All glory be to Christ!

Unless the Lord builds the house,

those who build it labor in vain.

Unless the Lord watches over the city,

the watchman stays awake in vain.

It is in vain that you rise up early

and go late to rest,

eating the bread of anxious toil;

for he gives to his beloved sleep.

Psalm 127:1-2 (ESV)

Many of us start the new year with great hope. We hope for a new chance to start relationships. We hope for a new chance to restart our business.  We hope for a new chance to grow closer to our families. We hope for a new chance to learn new hobbies. We hope for a new chance to live life!

Yet some of us start the new year with great anxiety. We are anxious about our finances. We are anxious about our health. We are anxious about our families. We are anxious about the million new curveballs we know life will inevitably throw us in the next twelve months.

Praise the Lord Jesus, who knows all the deepest joys and pains of humanity! We serve a Lord who has prayed both “Father, I thank you that you have heard me” and “Let this cup pass from me.”  He is the same Lord who intercedes for us even today!

Our God is faithful, and there are few better times to remind ourselves of this than at the dawn of a new year. As we look back, may we thank God earnestly for His provision, sustaining us even when we lose our way. And as we look forward, may we thank God earnestly for His faithfulness, giving us hope and guiding us even as we encounter the unknown, for nothing is unknown to God!

Oh, anxious soul, know that God is good! Know that He gives us hope—not vain hope, but hope grounded in the truth of His mercy, faithfulness, and love.  Rest in His eternal arms!

Oh, eager soul, take time to be still as well. Even with all hope and anticipation, recommit your life to your Father! After all, toil as we may, all is in vain unless the Lord builds the house! Hope indeed, and be joyous indeed, but do this, trusting not in yourself, but in the Lord Almighty!

In joy and in anxiety, know that the Lord is King! All Glory be to Christ!
