Praise in Every Season

LYRICS (Click to minimize)

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul, worship His holy name
Sing like never before, O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning
It’s time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul, worship His holy name
Sing like never before, O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

You’re rich in love and You’re slow to anger
Your name is great and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness, I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul, worship His holy name
Sing like never before, O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore
Forevermore

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul, worship His holy name
Sing like never before, O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul, worship His holy name
Sing like never before, O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name
Yes, I will worship Your holy name
Lord, I’ll worship Your holy name

Bless the Lord, O my soul,

and all that is within me,

bless his holy name!

Bless the Lord, O my soul,

and forget not all his benefits,

who forgives all your iniquity,

who heals all your diseases,

who redeems your life from the pit,

who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,

who satisfies you with good

so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

The Lord works righteousness

and justice for all who are oppressed.

He made known his ways to Moses,

His acts to the people of Israel.

The Lord is merciful and gracious,

slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

He will not always chide,

nor will he keep his anger forever.

He does not deal with us according to our sins,

nor repay us according to our iniquities.

For as high as the heavens are above the earth,

so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;

as far as the east is from the west,

so far does he remove our transgressions from us.

As a father shows compassion to his children,

so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.

For he knows our frame;

he remembers that we are dust.

As for man, his days are like grass;

he flourishes like a flower of the field;

for the wind passes over it, and it is gone,

and its place knows it no more.

But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him,

and his righteousness to children’s children.

to those who keep His covenant

and remember to do His commandments.

The Lord has established His throne in the heavens,

and His kingdom rules over all.

Bless the Lord, O you his angels,

you mighty ones who do his word,

obeying the voice of his word!

Bless the Lord, all his hosts,

his ministers, who do his will!

Bless the Lord, all his works,

in all places of his dominion.

Bless the Lord, O my soul!

Psalm 103 (ESV)

Take time to meditate on this psalm, and the rich praises found therein.

Unlike the world’s claims, to believe in God is not to be naïve. To believe in God is not to be blind to the sufferings of this world. Instead, knowing God makes clear the meaning of life and its sufferings. The impulses and patterns that shape human life are all given meaning by God Himself through Christ.

Birth is given meaning in Christ. Life is given meaning in Christ. Death is given meaning in Christ.

The beauty of the psalms is that they are not monolithic. They reflect various real and raw situations of the psalmists. The psalms reflect the prayers of the lonely. The psalms reflect the cries of the endangered. The psalms reflect the pangs of death and pain that echo to this day.

But one thing remains constant: the steadfast love of God. The reason we praise Him is not the lack of pain. The reason we praise Him is because He is the one Constant in an inconstant world. He is the unchanging factor in an ever-changing world. He is the one immutable in a mutating world. This gives us reason to praise Him.

Rest today in the love of God. In life and in death, may your soul bless the Lord. In summer and in winter, may your soul bless the Lord. In morning and in evening, may your soul bless the Lord. His steadfast love is from everlasting to everlasting.
