I Will Wait for You
(Shane and Shane)

More than Watchmen for the Morning

LYRICS (Click to minimize)

Out of the depths I cry to You
In darkest places I will call
Incline Your ear to me anew
And hear my cry for mercy, Lord

Were You to count my sinful ways
How could I come before Your throne
Yet full forgiveness meets my gaze
I stand redeemed by grace alone

I will wait for You
I will wait for You
On Your word, I will rely
I will wait for You
Surely wait for You
Till my soul is satisfied

So put your hope in God alone
Take courage in His power to save
Completely and forever won
By Christ emerging from the grave

I will wait for You
I will wait for You
On Your word, I will rely
I will wait for You
Surely wait for You
Till my soul is satisfied

Now He has come to make a way
And God Himself has paid the price
That all who trust in Him today
Find healing in His sacrifice

I will wait for You
I will wait for You
Through the storm and through the night
I will wait for You
Surely wait for You
For Your love is my delight

I will wait for You
I will wait for You
Through the storm and through the night
I will wait for You
Surely wait for You
For Your love is my delight

I will wait for You
I will wait for You
On Your word, I will rely
I will wait for You
Surely wait for You
Till my soul is satisfied

I will wait for You
I will wait for You
On Your word, I will rely
I will wait for You
Surely wait for You
Till my soul is satisfied

Out of the depths I cry to You, O Lord!

O Lord, hear my voice!

Let your ears be attentive

to the voice of my pleas for mercy!

If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities,

O Lord, who could stand?

But with you there is forgiveness,

that you may be feared.

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,

and in his word I hope;

my soul waits for the Lord

more than watchmen for the morning,

more than watchmen for the morning.

O Israel, hope in the Lord!

For with the Lord there is steadfast love,

and with him is plentiful redemption.

And he will redeem Israel

from all his iniquities.

Psalm 130 (ESV)

The idea of waiting for and on the Lord is often repeated in the psalms and Scripture. It is such a beautiful image of one who is still before the Lord, finding his hope in the Lord and His promises. This image of waiting is one that has many implications.

To wait is to be certain. One dreams of many things of which he is not certain. A father may dream of landing a dream job to achieve financial stability for his family. A college student may dream of graduating with flying colors. A child may dream of growing up to be strong and tall to play his favorite sport well. But to wait is more than to dream; to wait is to know. The watchman does not dream of the possibility of morning coming, but awaits it, knowing it is not yet here but will inevitably come. Likewise, we wait for the Lord, knowing we do not see the full revelation of His work and person YET,  but fully knowing it is coming. We wait for the Lord knowing He has redeemed and will redeem us, despite our countless sins.

To wait is to be still. Surely, it can be incredibly difficult to wait. Even so, the choice to wait on the Lord is the choice to be still before Him. To wait is to entrust everything to God, the Redeemer; to trust in His word and find hope in Him, when all else fades away.

To wait is to trust and hope. One cannot wait for something in which he has no faith. To wait on the Lord is to fully commit oneself to the fact that with Him is plentiful redemption and steadfast love. Even though His love may seem distant or dim, we wait for the full revelation of His redemption and love.

To wait for the Lord is to wait for all that is beautiful. As the watchman stands and looks over the horizon, waiting for the first glimmering rays of the sun, let us wait for God, our hope and our Redeemer.
